South's Waves App
South's Waves is a surf lifestyle app that connects users with surf lessons, board rentals, and gear — helping travelers and locals discover surf spots and book everything they need to "vive tú momento" (live your moment) on the water.
Year :
2023
Industry :
Travel & Leisure
Client :
South's Waves
Project Duration :
3 Weeks

Problem :
Surf tourists and beginners often face fragmented booking experiences — finding a reputable instructor, renting the right board for their skill level, and discovering nearby surf spots typically means juggling multiple sources (word of mouth, separate rental shops, social media) with no way to compare options, prices, or instructor credibility in one place.

Solution :
I designed a discovery-first mobile experience opening with a personalized home feed showcasing popular local spots and quick-access rental CTAs. A dedicated board rental flow lets users filter by category (Todas, Palas, Alto rendimiento, Medioalto) and compare boards side-by-side with ratings and pricing (Snapple Tooth, Dwarf Top, Hustler, Express). Instructor profiles build trust through ratings, bios, and video highlights ("Los 10 Mejores Momentos de Terence Trantow"), turning a stranger into a credible guide before the user ever meets them in person.

Challenge :
The challenge was balancing an aspirational, lifestyle-driven brand feel (bold typography, coral accent color, lifestyle photography) with the practical, transactional needs of renting equipment and booking lessons — ensuring the app felt inviting and vacation-like without sacrificing clarity around pricing, availability, and instructor credibility.
Summary :
South's Waves turns surf tourism logistics into a simple, trust-driven mobile experience — combining lifestyle appeal with practical booking tools for lessons and gear. By putting instructor credibility and clear product comparison front and center, the app helps users feel confident booking a new experience in an unfamiliar place.
